FIFA fever has hit since last week. Miami is the location where several matches are being played. Honestly, I only know that the Cape Verde is or was here. And now the Scots have come to town in anticipation of their match with Brazil tonight. Did you figure out that I don’t follow sports by now?
A week ago the Scottish fans took over Boston. They actually drank the town dry: https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/49096272/scotland-fans-drink-boston-dry-local-bars-run-beer-world-cup,
Constant Companion has been keeping me up-to-date with some of their local plans. Monday evening, thousands of the Scots attended the Marlins (baseball) home game. This was a consolation prize in place of the overpriced FIFA tickets. After a rally at the Ball and Chain, a legendary 1930s restaurant and watering hole in Little Havana, they marched en mass to the nearby Marlins Stadium.

I had read that yesterday, the Tartan Army was going to descend on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive. Nevertheless, I arranged a coffee meeting with a friend at a nearby cafe. She said that the day before Ocean Drive was awash with bag-pipes. I watched as what began as random individuals and small groups of happy celebrants were slowly transformed into a gathering of fans (or was it clans?) wearing kilts.

And they were so happy to pose for photos …

These images do not in any way capture the full story. I was present shortly before the rally started. Ocean Drive is still clear of the thousands who joined the Tartan Army.

Yes, I left before the clans and supporters descended.

Seeing the profusion of tartans reminded me that I had several wool kilts that used to enjoy wearing when I lived in cold northern winters many, many years ago buried deep in a drawer and a closet. Time has passed and my waist has grown. What will I do with these treasures?

I did so enjoy wearing them!
