This is really exciting … yesterday I received my list of the annual MacArthur (so-called genius) Awards as did many others. As I do every year I glimpsed at the list to see who was awarded, did I recognize any names. This morning’s New York Times pointed out what I missed.
Last year during our annual Art Week the work of one artist caught my eye – Jeremy Frey, a 45-year-old, seventh-generation basket maker from the Passamaquoddy tribe. His beautiful and innovative baskets are built upon the knowledge of the six generations of basket makers who preceeded him, from whom he learned.

Simply stated, congratulations to Jeremy Frey for this incomparable recognition for keeping up this ages old tradition and for his inspiration.
Very Cool!!! Was this displayed at Design Miami? I’ll have to make it there in December.
